Eddie Redmayne, an Academy, Tony, and BAFTA award-winning actor known for his roles in "The Good Nurse," "Trial of The Chicago Seven," and "The Theory of Everything," has been announced as the lead actor and executive producer for the upcoming original television series "The Day of the Jackal." The series is based on the renowned thriller novel by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 award-winning film adaptation from Universal Pictures. Sky and Peacock announced the news today.
Redmayne's recent performance in Netflix's "The Good Nurse" garnered critical acclaim and earned him nominations for BAFTA, SAG, and Golden Globe awards. He has also delivered award-winning performances in other projects like "The Trial of The Chicago Seven," "The Danish Girl," and "Les Misérables." Redmayne is no stranger to the stage, having led the West End revival of "Cabaret" in 2022 and won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as The Emcee.
"The Day of the Jackal" is a modern reimagining of the classic novel and film, staying true to the original story while delving deeper into the character of the 'anti-hero.' The series promises to be a high-octane, cinematic, globe-trotting thriller set against the backdrop of our current turbulent geo-political landscape.
Production on the series will commence this year. Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant are Executive Producers for Carnival Films. Frederick Forsyth will serve as Consulting Producer and Christopher Hall is Producer. Sam Hoyle is Executive Producer for Sky Studios.
