1980 series Oppenheimer added to BBC iPlayer

The timeless BBC series "Oppenheimer," featuring Sam Waterson in the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, is now accessible as a boxset on iPlayer.

Amidst the current screening of Christopher Nolan's blockbuster epic, starring Cillian Murphy in theaters, audiences can immerse themselves in the BBC's captivating portrayal of this brilliant yet conflicted physicist.

Originally aired in 1980, this Bafta-winning seven-part series delves into the life of Oppenheimer, who heads the weapons laboratory of the Manhattan Project, all while being closely monitored by the FBI due to his left-wing political views and association with communists. The show follows his crucial role in developing the world's first nuclear weapons and his rivalry with Edward Teller, culminating in the loss of his security clearance by the US Atomic Energy Commission in the 1950s.

"Oppenheimer" boasts an impressive cast, including John Carson, Christopher Munke, Jana Shelden, Kate Harper, and David Suchet. Sam Waterson's remarkable performance in this series paved the way for his fame in the US, with starring roles in "Law and Order," "The Newsroom," "Grace & Frankie," and many others.

You can catch every episode of "Oppenheimer" on BBC iPlayer, and the series will also air weekly on BBC Four on Saturday nights from 12 August. Don't miss this opportunity to delve into the captivating story of one of history's most influential scientists.
