The Tourist - first-look pictures for series two of BBC drama

Today, a collection of exclusive preview images has been unveiled for the highly anticipated second instalment of The Tourist. The returning faces of BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated Jamie Dornan (known for Belfast and The Fall) and Danielle Macdonald (recognized from Unbelievable and Dumplin') are showcased.

The visuals capture Jamie Dornan reprising his role as Elliot Stanley, a man on a quest to reclaim his true identity after grappling with memory loss. Alongside him, Danielle Macdonald resumes her portrayal of police officer Helen Chambers, their escapade having taken place in the Outback. Set against the captivating backdrop of Ireland, these two protagonists navigate a maze of allies and adversaries while striving to unveil the enigmatic layers of Elliot's past.

Amidst their entanglement in an enduring family feud, the second series introduces a fresh roster of characters, among them Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill, recognized for Industry and The Fall), Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré, known from Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Northman), and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh, acclaimed for Vikings and Outlander), Orla (Nessa Matthews, familiar from Fair City), Fergal (Mark McKenna, notable for Sing Street and One of Us is Lying), and Frank (Francis Magee, recognized from Kin and Then You Run).

Replete with astonishing plot twists and the same distinct humour that contributed to the triumph of its initial season, The Tourist is poised to return with an even more diverse cast of characters and heightened intensity.

In series one, the debut attracted an audience of 11.4 million in the UK and clinched the accolade of being the nation's most-watched drama of 2022 across all viewing platforms. On a global scale, the first series garnered viewership across five continents, reaching from South Korea to Scandinavia. It garnered significant recognition, securing three Golden Nymphs Awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, including the esteemed Best Series award – the highest honour at the festival.
