First images for supernatural new BBC drama about modern witches, Domino Day

Just in time for Halloween, the BBC has unveiled a sneak peek of its upcoming contemporary witch-themed drama, "Domino Day." This original series has been created and scripted by the BAFTA-nominated Lauren Sequeira, and it's been brought to life through the development and production efforts of Fremantle's Dancing Ledge Productions (known for "The Responder" and "The Salisbury Poisoning") for the BBC. "Domino Day" is set to debut in early 2024 on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.

Set and filmed in Manchester, this supernatural six-part series stars the BAFTA-nominated Siena Kelly (renowned for "Adult Material" and "Hit & Run") in the lead role as Domino Day. Domino is not your typical dating app user; she's not searching for her soulmate, but rather, she's on the hunt.

As a young witch possessing extraordinary powers, Domino is in desperate need of a community that can help her unravel her identity. However, she doesn't have to look far, as a coven of witches is closely monitoring her every move. They are convinced that they must stop her before her powers lead to the destruction of everyone and everything around her.

When a dangerous figure from Domino's past resurfaces, it begs the question: Will this be a fresh start for them all, or will it culminate in a final showdown?

In the new images, Siena Kelly can be seen in the role of Domino, alongside a talented cast that includes Babirye Bukilwa as Sammie, Poppy Lee Friar as Geri, Alisha Bailey as Kat, Molly Harris as Jules, Sam Howard Sneyd as Silas, and Percelle Ascott as Leon. The series also features Lucy Cohu, Christopher Jeffers, and Jonah Rzeskiewicz.

The creator of "Domino Day," Lauren Sequeira, remarked, "I cannot wait for the world to meet this amazing cast, led by the sensational Siena Kelly. Don't expect broomsticks, pointy hats, and wands - these are witches like you've never seen before; cool, provocative, and full of grit. They are all simply spellbinding on screen, and Siena is the perfect Domino Day."

"Domino Day," consisting of six 45-minute episodes, is created and scripted by Lauren Sequeira, with individual episodes crafted by Charlene James and Haleema Mirza. The series is helmed by directors Eva Sigurdardottir and Nadira Amrani, with Nick Pitt serving as the producer. Executive producers for the series are Lauren Sequeira, Laurence Bowen, Chris Carey, and Elinor Day for Dancing Ledge Productions, along with Lucy Richer and Ayela Butt for the BBC.

"Domino Day" is scheduled to air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in early 2024, with global distribution handled by Fremantle.

"Killing Sherlock: Lucy Worsley on the Case of Conan Doyle" promises to unravel the mysteries behind the iconic detective and his brilliant creator. The show, produced by BBC Studios, is set to be a fascinating three-episode journey through the life, work, and legacy of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherlock Holmes: An Iconic Enigma

Sherlock Holmes, the legendary detective, has captured the imaginations of millions for over a century with his unparalleled intellect and extraordinary powers of deduction. His adventures span over 60 original stories, numerous adaptations, and a devoted fan base. However, what many don't know is that his very creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, grew to despise his fictional character.

In "Killing Sherlock," historian Lucy Worsley, a lifelong Holmes enthusiast, takes on the role of a modern-day detective to explore the intricate relationship between Holmes and Doyle. This unique parallel biography offers fresh insights into the complex man who breathed life into the enigmatic detective.

Lucy Worsley, the show's host, shares her excitement, saying, "I have had a LIFE-LONG CRUSH on Sherlock Holmes, so it was the biggest pleasure imaginable to explore his life, death and resurrection. While exploring his life and times, I also got a real and sometimes troubling insight into manliness, Empire, and Victorian values. I find his creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, to be a complex, contradictory and endlessly fascinating character."

A Journey into History and Personal Lives

Following in the footsteps of her previous series, "Agatha Christie: Lucy Worsley On The Mystery Queen," Lucy scours archives, engages with experts, meets descendants, and interacts with fans. This immersive approach weaves historical context with personal history, portraying Conan Doyle and Sherlock against the backdrop of significant world events and societal changes.

Throughout the series, Lucy unearths the origins of Sherlock in Conan Doyle's early life as a medical student, delving into early stories and revealing the dark underbelly of late Victorian Britain, from drug use to true crime. She also explores Doyle's growing disillusionment with his own creation and his desire to distance himself from Holmes. Furthermore, the series touches upon his involvement in one of the most important legal cases of the 20th century, delves into the darkness of his later stories, and uncovers the parallel narrative of Conan Doyle's life after the loss of his eldest son, his turn to spiritualism, and his declining public appeal.

Sherlock Holmes, on the other hand, found a life beyond his author, captivating audiences on stage and screen, a testament to his enduring popularity.

William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" Set for TV Adaptation - Casting Call Underway for Young Talents

William Golding's iconic novel, "Lord of the Flies," is making its television debut, and the hunt has begun to discover the emerging stars who will breathe life into this classic tale.

A Landmark Adaptation

Producer Eleven, known for its works like "Sex Education" and "Ten Pound Poms," has issued a call for boys aged between 10-13 to audition for roles in this highly-anticipated four-part drama. The adaptation, brought to life by acclaimed writer Jack Thorne, is set to commence filming in Australia from April 2024 onwards.

Nina Gold Takes the Lead

Leading the casting process is BAFTA award-winning casting director Nina Gold, renowned for her work on titles such as "Game of Thrones," "The Crown," and, most recently, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." Gold was also behind the casting of "The Power of the Dog," which earned a BAFTA for Best Film and received multiple Oscar nominations in 2022.

The Search for Young Talent

The production team is on the lookout for children between the ages of 10 and 13 to assume the leading roles of the main boys in this faithful adaptation of "Lord of the Flies." No prior acting experience is necessary for the auditions.

Parents and guardians are invited to apply by emailing lotf@ninagold.co.uk. The application should include a video filmed on a phone, where the child states their name, age, and general location in the UK. The young auditionees are also asked to share, in under 30 seconds, what item they would choose to have with them if they were stranded on a remote tropical island and explain their choice. Parents and guardians should clarify their relationship to the applicant and assert their permission for the child to be considered for a role in the production.

"Lord of the Flies" - A Modern Adaptation

Written by Jack Thorne, the mind behind "National Treasure," "Help," and "Best Interests," and executive produced by Eleven's Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell, this adaptation of "Lord of the Flies" is a 4-part, 60-minute drama that will be featured on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. It weaves the story of a group of young boys who find themselves stranded on a tropical island.

As they struggle to maintain civility, the boys form a hierarchy, led by Ralph and supported by the intellectual Piggy. However, Jack, tasked with signal fire duty, becomes more interested in hunting and vying for leadership, pulling other boys away from the group's order and leading them from hope into tragedy.

A Daunting Task

Commenting on the casting process, Jack Thorne acknowledges the challenge, saying, "I think casting these parts is a daunting job. We have to tell a complicated story, and it'll need a remarkable cast, so I'm thrilled that Nina will be in charge of the process. I can't wait for us all to get dug in."

Nina Gold's Perspective

Nina Gold expresses her anticipation of the challenge: "I'm looking forward to the challenge of finding exciting, talented, young actors for these characters that are etched on my own childhood memory, now being brought to a modern audience by this brilliant adaptation."

The Producer's Vision

Joel Wilson from Eleven notes, "There is no-one better suited to the job of casting these extraordinary roles than Nina, so we're delighted that she will be taking the reins. With Nina's help, we're convinced this group of boys and the journey they take us on will be as indelibly etched on our minds as the book is for those who have read it."

A Timeless Classic
