BBC Comedy announces there will be one more Ghosts Christmas special

After announcing earlier this year that the beloved comedy Ghosts would conclude after its upcoming fifth and final series, the show's creators surprised fans with news of a Christmas special.

Taking to social media, the Ghosts team shared, "The final series of Ghosts starts on Friday... but there might be one last present under the Christmas tree this year #BBCGhosts."

Ghosts has consistently been a TV highlight during the Christmas season, with its 2022 special attracting a whopping 5.9 million viewers, making it the standout comedy of the year.

The Christmas special from the previous year received a warm reception:

Steve Bennett, Chortle: "This adorable comedy has quickly become a Christmas staple."
Carol Midgley, The Times: "The former Horrible Histories team's ability to create something genuinely funny, appealing to both adults and children, is a truly rare skill in this era."
Rebecca Nicholson, The Guardian: "We're all better off with this joyful sitcom in our lives."
David Craig, Radio Times: "Ghosts remains one of the most purely entertaining shows on British television, and this year's festive episode packs a heavy punch by acknowledging the profound tragedy in its premise."
The fifth and final series of Ghosts premieres on Friday, October 6th at 8:30 PM on BBC One and will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.
