The BBC has unveiled a preview of early images from "This Town," an upcoming major drama series by Steven Knight, the creator of "Peaky Blinders" and "SAS Rogue Heroes." The series features notable actors like Michelle Dockery (known for "Downton Abbey" and "Anatomy of a Scandal"), Nicholas Pinnock (from "Life" and "Marcella"), David Dawson (seen in "My Policeman" and "The Last Kingdom"), among others.
"This Town" is the brainchild of Steven Knight, who serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. The series is directed by Paul Whittington and produced by Charlotte Surtees and Tim Whitby. Executive Producers include Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, and Katie McAleese for Kudos, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Laura Conway (Kudos North), Matthew James Wilkinson (Stigma Films), and Nick Angel contribute as Co-Executive Producers. Banijay Rights will oversee international distribution for the series.
Produced by Kudos (a Banijay UK company) and Nebulastar for the BBC, in collaboration with Mercury Studios, Kudos North, Stigma Films, and Nick Angel, this six-part epic was filmed in Birmingham and Steven Knight's new Digbeth Loc. Film and TV Studios. Set against the backdrop of family bonds, youthful adventures, and the electrifying music of an era, "This Town" narrates the formation of a band amidst a violent setting, illustrating how artistic brilliance can emerge from chaotic times.
Led by a promising cast of emerging talents, the series stars Levi Brown, Jordan Bolger, Ben Rose, and Eve Austin as the four young protagonists. Notable actors like Geraldine James, Peter McDonald, Freya Parks, Shyvonne Ahmmad, John Heffernan, Stefan Asante-Boateng, Séainín Brennan, George Somner, and Brendan Gibson will also grace the series.
Blending the elements of a high-octane thriller and a family saga, "This Town" begins in 1981, a period marked by intense social unrest. Amidst this backdrop, the story unfolds, following a group of young individuals striving to carve their own destinies and seeking the redemptive power of music.
In a strategic collaboration with Mercury Studios (a part of the Universal Music Group), the series will feature an array of high-profile musical artists, providing a vibrant musical landscape for Knight's compelling narrative. Notable producer Dan Carey, along with Brit and Mercury nominated musician, novelist, and poet Kae Tempest, have crafted the songs performed by the band within the series.
