The BBC has announced the lineup for the upcoming Celebrity Mastermind series, unveiling that the popular quiz show has found a new home on Friday nights at 8 pm on BBC One.
Guiding the celebrity contestants through the challenging rounds is BBC presenter Clive Myrie, who oversees the proceedings as the participants courageously take on the formidable black chair, all in the name of raising funds for their chosen charities. This season's contenders feature a mix of top comedians, sports personalities, actors, and TV presenters, including professional footballer Troy Deeney, singer-songwriter Andrew Roachford, and BBC News presenter Jane Hill.
The inaugural celebrities stepping into the spotlight are comedian Rosie Jones, BBC Radio 1 DJ Gemma Bradley, musician Dan Gillespie Sells from the band The Feeling, and broadcaster Andy Goldstein. Each will be put to the test on their chosen specialist subjects, ranging from the BBC sitcom Dinner Ladies and the Iron Man films to songwriter Bernie Taupin and Martin Scorsese's iconic gangster film, Goodfellas.
Reflecting on her experience, Rosie Jones shares her excitement, expressing that sitting in the famous leather chair was a dream come true, and the whole Mastermind experience exceeded her expectations.
In the second episode, the spotlight turns to a diverse lineup featuring Danny O'Carroll from Mrs Brown's Boys, Drag Race UK queen Cheddar Gorgeous, Brendan Sheerin from Coach Trip, and comedian Jayde Adams. Each contestant takes on the challenge of their chosen specialist subjects: Irish footballing legend Robbie Keane, Mythical Creatures of the British Isles, Barcelona's Sagrada FamÃlia, and the cult supernatural TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Expressing anticipation for the prestigious cognitive contest, Cheddar Gorgeous shares, "I can't wait to test my knowledge in the most prestigious cognitive contest in entertainment history. I don't think I've ever been this excited about sitting in a chair, and I really like sitting down!"
Host Clive Myrie reflects on the enthusiasm of Celebrity Mastermind participants, noting their willingness to face the grilling in the famous black chair for the sake of entertainment and charity. He remarks, "What I love about Celebrity Mastermind is that our famous contenders are game for anything. Up for a grilling in the famous black chair. It's wonderful entertainment helping out their favorite charities. Game on!"
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment, expresses excitement about Celebrity Mastermind's return to the schedules, particularly in its new Friday spot.
