BBC Unveils First-Look Images for "Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light" as Filming Wraps

As anticipation builds for the next installment of the acclaimed "Wolf Hall" series, the BBC and MASTERPIECE PBS have offered a tantalizing glimpse into the highly anticipated "Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light." With filming now concluded, fans of historical drama can feast their eyes on the newly released first-look images, providing a glimpse into the world of Tudor England.

Based on the final novel in Hilary Mantel's award-winning trilogy, "Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light" promises to delve deeper into the intricate web of power, politics, and intrigue that defined the Tudor court. Set against the backdrop of May 1536, a pivotal moment in English history, the series follows the aftermath of Anne Boleyn's demise and the ascent of Thomas Cromwell, brilliantly portrayed by Mark Rylance, as he continues his ascent to power in the court of King Henry VIII, played by Damian Lewis.

Joining the stellar cast are Kate Phillips as Jane Seymour, Lilit Lesser as Princess Mary, Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Wolsey, Harriet Walter as Lady Margaret Pole, Harry Melling as Thomas Wriothesley, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Rafe Sadler, Timothy Spall as the Duke of Norfolk, Alex Jennings as Stephen Gardiner, and Charlie Rowe as Gregory Cromwell.

Directed by seven-time BAFTA award winner Peter Kosminsky and adapted for television by Academy Award nominee Peter Straughan, "Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light" promises to deliver the same captivating storytelling and attention to detail that captivated audiences in the first series. Produced by Colin Callender's Playground and Company Pictures, the series is set to be a compelling exploration of power, ambition, and survival in a ruthless and unforgiving era.

The narrative unfolds as Thomas Cromwell navigates the treacherous waters of Tudor politics, torn between his desire to do what is right and his instinct for self-preservation. Against a backdrop of rebellion, betrayal, and looming threats of invasion, Cromwell's ambition knows no bounds as he envisions a new England ripe for innovation and religious reform. Yet, lurking in the shadows are enemies waiting to pounce, raising the question of how long anyone can survive under Henry VIII's capricious rule.

"Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light" promises to be a fitting conclusion to Cromwell's journey, tracing his evolution from a self-made man to one of the most influential figures of his time. With its rich tapestry of characters and complex political machinations, the series is sure to captivate audiences once again, offering a mesmerizing glimpse into one of the most tumultuous periods in English history.

The six-part series, a co-production between Playground and Company Pictures for the BBC and MASTERPIECE, will be distributed internationally by Banijay Rights. Further details regarding the release date and distribution will be announced in due course, but fans can rest assured that "Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light" promises to be an unmissable television event, blending history, drama, and intrigue in equal measure.
