Set against the backdrop of various locations across Sydney and the picturesque Illawarra coastal region, this intriguing six-part series promises to deliver an enthralling whodunit with a distinctly Australian flair, while paying homage to the beloved 'Paraverse.' Produced by BBC Studios Productions Australia in collaboration with Red Planet Pictures for the ABC, "Return to Paradise" is set to captivate audiences on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK.

Stepping into the shoes of the franchise's first lead female detective is Anna Samson, known for her roles in "Dead Lucky," "Wake in Fright," and "Jack Irish," as she portrays the sharp-witted Mackenzie Clarke. Alongside Samson, a stellar ensemble cast, including Lloyd Griffith, Tai Hara, Catherine McClements, Celia Ireland, Andrea Demetriades, and Aaron McGrath, will unravel the mysteries that await them.

"Return to Paradise" follows DI Mackenzie Clarke, an Australian ex-pat renowned for her ability to crack uncrackable murder cases within London's Metropolitan Police. However, when accusations of evidence tampering surface, Mackenzie finds herself returning to her hometown of Dolphin Cove, a place she had fled six years ago, leaving behind her ex-fiancée, Glenn, played by Tai Hara.

Despite the less-than-warm welcome awaiting her in Dolphin Cove, Mackenzie's unrivaled talent for solving mysteries leads her to join the team at the local police station. Driven by her relentless determination to bring justice to the victims, Mackenzie immerses herself in each case, earning the respect of her colleagues and the community she once left behind.

Co-Creator and Executive Producer Peter Mattessi expresses his excitement for the project, welcoming Producer Di Haddon and directors Mat King and Tenika Smith to the team. Together with the stellar cast, they aim to bring the world of "Return to Paradise" to life, blending the charm of the Australian coastal setting with the captivating allure of mystery.

"I'm beyond excited to welcome Producer Di Haddon and our two fabulous directors Mat King and Tenika Smith who are coming together with our amazing cast to bring the world of Return to Paradise to life," says Mattessi. "We are having so much fun creating this brand-new mystery series that brings an Australian twist to one of the globe's most successful television franchises."

"Return to Paradise" is a collaboration between BBC Studios Productions Australia and Red Planet Pictures, co-created and executive produced by Peter Mattessi, James Hall, and Robert Thorogood, with Di Haddon as the producer. Executive producers from BBC Studios Productions Australia include Kylie Washington and Warren Clarke, while Belinda Campbell and Tim Key represent Red Planet Pictures, and Rachel Okine and Brett Sleigh for ABC.

Audiences can anticipate the premiere of "Return to Paradise" on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, followed by its release on ABC and ABC iview later this year in Australia. With global distribution handled by BBC Studios, this captivating series is poised to capture the hearts and minds of viewers worldwide.
