Last week I wrote an article regarding Gloria Thomas, the baby who died after her parents treated her serious eczema condition with Homeopathy instead of conventional medicine.

Well smh.com.au have reported that the NSW Coroner has found there is sufficient evidence for the Director of Public Prosecutions to consider laying charges against the parents Thomas Sam and Manju Samuel.

The inquest which was held at Glebe Coroner's Court had been told Gloria has suffered from cracks in her skin from her eczema which may have been the cause of the infection which eventually killed her.

The State Coroner Mary Jerram closed the inquest today and described that there was a reasonable prospect the evidence presented to the inquiry could convince a jury to convict someone of a serious crime.

Mary Jerram told how she believed that the people who caused Glorias death through negligence warranted criminal punishment.

She said:
"In my view there is a prima facie case to consider and there is a reasonable prospect that a jury would convict,"

She also said:
"I therefore recommend the NSW Department of Health consider introducing a mandatory system of registration for persons practising or wishing to practise homeopathy,"

At the very least this story has highlighted in Australia the dangers of using homeopathy instead of conventional medicine, and if stronger regulations can be brought in, then maybe Gloria's wont be completely in vain.
