By Jon DonnisA few days ago I read an article from an Australian news site, it tells of Gloria Thomas a 9 month old baby girl who had chronic eczema, and how she died of infection.
Unfortunately this story is not completely unheard of, but what made things worse was that the father had been treating the poor child with homeopathic remedies.
Gloria Thomas succumbed to her infection at Sydney Children's Hospital on May 8, 2002, she was incredibly malnourished.
On the 5th of Novemeber 2007, an inquest into the childs death began in Sydney Australia.
The main Forensic pathologist Ella Sugo, described how she "had never seen a child in such a condition"
Even though Gloria was diagnosed with serious eczema when she was just 4 months old, her parents failed to keep two appointments with specialists, and instead it is claimed that the childs father Thomas Sam was a practising homeopath, and "had apparently over time been applying homeopathic remedies in an attempt to cure Gloria's condition"
Many people describe homeopathy as a no lose treatment, if it works then great, if it doesn't then no harm done.
Well in the case of Gloria, she has lost her very life.
Before the chid died, she was even taken to India for homeopathic and naturopathic treatment from an uncle. Upon returning to Australia in late April Gloria was in a lot of distress, 8 days later she was taken to hospital, and on May the 8th she died.
A needless death for a treatable condition and infection.
The parents of the child will undoubtably blame anyone but themselves or homeopathy.
I just hope that this case will highlight the dangers of homeopathy, and how belief in such things can truly kill.
Gloria need not have died, and I place the blame firmly on homeopathy.
