Come Together to Support London Film Day
www.bfi.org.uk/londonfilmday
The full programme has been confirmed - and all tickets are now on sale - for the Mayor of London’s LONDON FILM DAY, on Sunday 21 March. This new initiative will promote the cinema-going experience to Londoners of all ages, and provide an exciting day out for London families and film fans.
As well as 15 simultaneous world public premieres of the new family feature film, NANNY MCPHEE AND THE BIG BANG, a variety of family friendly activities will take you behind the scenes with a variety of studio and location tours, offering an insight into why London is one of the top three film making cities in the world. The day includes opportunities for young Londoners to take part in free movie workshops and activities ranging from modelling and animation techniques, to storytelling and storyboarding.
15 cinemas, from Harrow to Croydon and Southwark to Wood Green (full list of participating cinemas, and screening times below), will be showing the special premieres, but also getting in on the act are organisations associated with the capital's film industry and places that have provided iconic locations, including Pinewood and Ealing Studios, Somerset House, BAFTA, Old Royal Naval College Greenwich, London Eye and London Film Museum.
LONDON FILM DAY has been developed by the Mayor of London, Film London (the capital’s film and media agency) and the BFI London Film Festival, with the support of Universal Pictures to promote the cinema going experience and London as a centre for film making. 75% of the UK's film making activity is based here and the city's production industries contribute an estimated £13.6bn annually to the capital’s economy. London is also one of the most filmed cities in the world with an average of 35 crews shooting in London everyday. London shot films currently or soon to be in cinemas include Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Green Zone starring Matt Damon, Gulliver's Travels starring Jack Black as well as NANNY MCPHEE AND THE BIG BANG.
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson comments: "Our capital is home to extraordinary actors whose talents have conquered the highest peaks of Hollywood. Our thriving film industry owes much of its success to the brilliance of those toiling behind the scenes, making us one of the top three film making cities in the world. From the animators that brought us the successful Fantastic Mr Fox, to the creatives who made us witness dalmatians and even werewolves running through our streets. London's unrivalled range of film locations are continually immortalised on the big screen and I encourage everyone to enjoy some first class entertainment on Sunday March 21st."
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London adds: “We are really pleased that so many great London film-making organisations have got on board to support LONDON FILM DAY. From Pinewood Studios Group and Ealing Studios who are offering free tours as competition prizes, to Somerset House, the location for many great movies shot in the capital, which is offering free tours and workshops on 21 March. Not to mention BAFTA who are pitching in with free kids workshops by industry experts. The support of the London-based film industry has been really encouraging.”
LONDON FILM DAY is also supported by media/in-kind partners London Evening Standard, CBS Outdoor, Transport for London and BBC London.
