I was told the doors opened at 6-30pm. I was there at 6-28, and my watch seems to be 2 minutes fast. There were about 12 people ahead of me in the queue and when I got in, there were about 50 people already seated right at the front, around the area Gary was to do his demo. I don't know how they managed to get in so early.

Then Steve Nobel, Co-director of "Alternatives", came to the front. He asked at one point if there was anyone in the audience from UK Skeptics, as he'd had a few emails. Now this was a problem for me. I am a member of the UKS Forum, obviously, but I was not there officially representing UKS. And as I was sitting there recording things with my new digital recorder, I thought if I raise my hand, I might be asked to leave. Well possibly.

So I didn't, but I will accept any criticism from anyone who says I should have.

Anyway, I did get a chance to meet Prof. Chris French from Goldsmiths!

The recording of the demo was made with a new digital voice recorder I bought last week. I was intending to try to transcribe it, but it lasts about an hour and a quarter – transcription would take a huge amount of time. Also, the church being very resonant means some of Gary’s words and some of the questions are not clear. Prof French invited me along to a pub where he’d planned to meet some friends, and a chap from Skeptics In The Pub suggested converting the rather large wav file into an mp3 file and uploading onto UKS. I’ll have to contact John about that.

Gary’s talk was delivered in an informal, amiable way – plenty of jokes. He said that he would invite volunteers up for healing from the whole church, but in fact the 4 or 5 he treated all seemed to come from the front. After 50 minutes or so, my attention started to wander. There was nothing really to look at – Gary laid his hands on the “damaged” area, and continued talking to the audience, and occasionally Abraham, his Spirit Guide.

I was familiar with some of the things Gary said from visiting his various websites. I wasn’t sure how the recording would work out, so I jotted down some of his more interesting comments. Here, they are, in no particular order.

Soya milk and goats’ milk are high in oestrogen, which can cause breast cancer.

Microwave cookers kill germs but also everything in the food

The oranges we buy in the shops are injected with arsenic

He is a fan of sea-salt – in America, a dog was drained of its blood, transfused with sea water and went on to live for 9 years

Blue algae is good for Alzheimer’s

Someone asked what would happen if Abraham didn’t know what condition someone was suffering from or how to treat someone. But Abraham has a bank of 37 doctors and surgeons to refer back to.

He said he works with GPs but is unable to name them for professional reasons – but he did mention Dr Gowri Motha -

Manesh Naidoo - Head Physiotherapist for Northwick park Hospital

Dr Glen Davies - Homeopathic Doctor, all of whom he mentioned at the beginning of the thread on UK Skeptics forum.

He recommended two other Psychic Surgeons – the first I couldn’t catch, but also John of God in the Philippines.

Mozart and Einstein were “Indigos”.

He is in favour of the new law in April protecting consumers from fraud.

People can get healing from just being in the building, without even being touched by Gary.

Throughout the one and a quarter hours, he repeatedly said “just my opinion” or words to that effect.

A friend of mine has edited out the unnecessary stuff at the beginning and end of the tape, and converted it to mp3, but the file is still a large 18Mb. He is in the process of trying to upload it to a website so people can listen/copy, if they REALLY want to. I think 18Mb is too big to email.

The whole demo was videoed and will appear on DVD eventually I presume.

Could Abraham's back-up team of 37 invisible doctors be based on John of God's 30 assistant surgeons?
