A TWIST OF FATE FOR FROST

A TWIST OF FATE FOR FROST
As the nation prepares to bid farewell to one of TV’s most loved detectives, DI Jack Frost (David Jason), ITV reveals more about how the legendary sleuth will meet his fate.

The last gripping scenes of the final two-part film have been shrouded in secrecy since it was filmed on location in Leeds last year. With two alternative endings, each one equally dramatic, viewers will be kept in suspense until the evening of broadcast to learn whether or not Frost will survive his last hurrah.

The film entitled If Dogs Run Free follows Frost’s battle to convict Gerry Berland (Adrian Dunbar), a dangerous criminal masquerading as a successful businessman. Berland’s been evading prison for years and, tenacious as ever, Frost is determined to send him down.

The episodes will also see Frost investigating a series of homicides which appear to mirror the crimes that he failed to solve over 16 years ago. As the past comes back to haunt him it soon becomes clear that the copycat killer has a personal vendetta, but will Frost get to the bottom of it before the murderer strikes again?

With exception to a brief liaison with a nurse who cared for his wife, Frost’s dedication to the Police Force since his wife died meant he’s failed to sustain a serious romantic relationship with anyone. That’s until he finds himself falling for RSPCA officer, Christine Moorhead (Phyllis Logan), who he’s protecting as the sole witness to the murder of a teenage boy.

As their friendship blossoms, a softer side to Frost is revealed and he finds himself ready to share his future with Christine. Just as Frost finds love his final enemy proves to be his toughest and most dangerous opponent ever.

Will Frost walk away having found happiness with Christine or will devastation mean that the police force bid farewell to him forever?

Fans of the series will have exclusive access to the alternative ending which will be made available on ITV.com directly after the final episode has been broadcast on ITV1.

Executive producer, David Reynolds said: “It’s been an incredible 18 years for both David Jason and I. Although this is the end of a very big era for everyone involved, Frost is a popular character and the final two episodes will be a fitting finish to one of TV’s best loved crime dramas.”

Senior Editor ITV.com, Ben Freeman added: "ITV.com is all about bringing viewers closer to their favourite shows and we are thrilled to be able to give Frost fans an opportunity to enjoy a little more time with a character who is so well loved."

The 2 x 120 minute episodes are co-executive produced by Sir David Jason and David Reynolds alongside Richard Bates and Philip Burley. Filmed in Leeds they have been produced by David Reynolds (Ghost Boat, Diamond Geezer), directed by Paul Harrison (Diamond Geezer) and written by Michael Russell (Midsomer Murders, Foyle’s War). A Touch of Frost is an ITV Studios production in association with Excelsior.
