Last Of The Summer Wine *From The Beginning*
Weekdays, 8.20pm (from Monday 10th October)
Approaching its 40th anniversary, Last Of The Summer Wine is like a time capsule for fans of gentle humour and slapstick comedy, as well as old-fashioned country life.
Filmed in the Yorkshire village of Holmfirth, it presents a life of traditional values, rural community and hard-working, honest folk while three OAPs gallivant around the village acting more like teenagers than those past their sell-by date.
Yesterday goes right back to the very start, in 1973, and the pilot episode where the introduction of Michael Bates as Blamire, Peter Sallis as Clegg and Bill Owen as the legendary Compo – three men, three different characters with only the goal of making each day as full and as fun in common. This simple approach and beautiful, unspoilt attitude to life (that had stayed the same for decades) heralded a new era in British sitcom history.
