In a groundbreaking new series, Virgin Island follows twelve adult virgins as they travel to a luxury Mediterranean retreat to take part in a unique course on intimacy. Across the series, they face their fears around sex, relationships and physical closeness, with the aim of helping them move past the barriers that have held them back.

The modern world is often seen as highly sexualised, yet research from University College London shows a different story. According to their findings, one in eight 26-year-olds today are still virgins, compared to just one in twenty in previous generations. Factors such as social media, pornography, and loneliness are suggested influences, leading to increased body image anxiety and fear of intimacy among young people.

This warm and thought-provoking series offers a sensitive look at these challenges, as leading sexologists guide the twelve participants through practical, hands-on sessions. With many of the group nervous even about simple touch, the course sets out to help them build confidence in emotional and physical connection. The question remains whether they will be able to overcome their fears, fall in love, or take their first steps towards sex and intimacy.

Virgin Island is produced by Double Act Productions for Channel 4 and Channel 4 streaming. The series premieres in May.
