The trailer for the third season of Foundation has finally landed, and it wastes no time raising the stakes. The Apple TV+ sci-fi epic, created by David S. Goyer and based on Isaac Asimov's celebrated stories, returns globally on 11 July. Just one episode to start, then new instalments will drop each Friday through to 12 September. It's a ten-part season that promises more drama, more danger and even more of that bold, sprawling world the show has become known for.

Jared Harris, Lee Pace and Lou Llobell are all back, joined by new cast members including Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, Troy Kotsur and Pilou Asbæk. They're stepping into a story that has only grown more intense since last season. We're now 152 years on from the events of season two. The Foundation has evolved, no longer just a scrappy rebellion on the edge of collapse. It's now a fully formed power, standing in sharp contrast to the Cleonic Empire, which is fading under the weight of its own history.

But just as the uneasy balance between these two forces begins to settle, a new danger arrives. The Mule. He isn't just another military leader looking to take over. He uses fear, strength and mind control, and he's aiming for nothing less than total control of the galaxy. It's not clear how he fits into the old equations or whether the predictions of Hari Seldon still hold any real weight. That question alone could unravel everything.

This season feels more like a chess match than ever. The Cleons, Demerzel, Gaal Dornick and Seldon are all moving in different directions, each trying to protect their version of the future. Trust is thin, motives are murky, and it's getting harder to tell who's actually winning. Or if winning is even possible anymore.

From the beginning, Foundation has built itself around huge ideas. Civilisation collapsing and rebuilding. The weight of prophecy. What it means to control the course of history. But it's never just been abstract. The show finds room for quiet character moments too, and season three looks ready to carry on with that balance. With the expanded cast, there's space for fresh perspectives and complications, not just more spectacle.

Visually, the trailer keeps things as polished and ambitious as fans have come to expect. There's grandeur in almost every frame, but it doesn't come at the cost of emotion or clarity. The tension is real. So is the scale. And as the new season approaches, that combination feels more important than ever.

Produced by Skydance Television for Apple TV+, the series continues under Goyer's creative direction, supported by a long list of executive producers including Bill Bost, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Robyn Asimov, David Kob, Christopher J. Byrne, Leigh Dana Jackson, Jane Espenson and Roxann Dawson.

The first and second seasons are already available to stream worldwide on Apple TV+. For anyone thinking about jumping in, there's plenty of time to catch up. But even for returning fans, this next chapter doesn't look like it'll go the way anyone expects. A galaxy in flux, a new enemy rising, and the old guard still fighting to hold the line. It's all about to collide.
