The BBC has unveiled the first trailer and a fresh batch of images for Film Club, a new romantic comedy-drama arriving on Tuesday 7 October. All episodes will land on BBC iPlayer from 6am, while BBC Three will air the first two episodes back-to-back at 10pm the same evening.
Produced by Gaumont, the series marks the screenwriting debut of Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis, who also star. Wood plays Evie, a young woman who hasn't stepped outside in six months following a personal "wobble". Her weekly film club, set up in her mum's garage, is her escape into a world of cinematic wonder, where she can dress the space to match whatever film is showing and spend uninterrupted time with her best friend Noa, played by Nabhaan Rizwan.
The trailer teases a turning point as Noa shares life-changing news: a dream job will soon take him across the country. For the first time, Evie and Noa are forced to confront the feelings that might exist beyond friendship. Alongside this central will-they-won't-they thread, the story unfolds amid the chaos of Evie's lively family home, featuring her devoted single mum Suz (Suranne Jones), sister Izzie (Liv Hill), garage-squatting boyfriend Josh (Adam Long) and unpredictable neighbour Callum (Owen Cooper).
The cast also includes Arian Nik and Fola Evans-Akingbola as fellow club members, with co-creator Ralph Davis stepping in as newcomer Dominic. Behind the scenes, Catherine Morshead directs, with Stella Merz and Hannah Pescod producing. Executive producers include Alison Jackson, Jamie Jackson and Aimee Lou Wood for Gaumont, and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC. Filmed in Manchester earlier this year, Film Club promises a warm, witty look at love, friendship and the messy choices that come with both.
