The official trailer has landed for IT: Welcome to Derry, a new Sky Exclusive series that dives back into the haunted streets of King's most infamous town. The eight-episode season premieres on 27 October on Sky and streaming service NOW, with fresh episodes dropping every Monday.
Developed for television by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, the show expands the world introduced in King's novel and the hit feature films IT and IT Chapter Two. Andy Muschietti, who directed both films, returns to direct multiple episodes of the series, promising the same unsettling atmosphere that made Pennywise a modern horror icon.
Stephen King's novel IT was first published in 1986 and quickly became one of his most celebrated works. Set in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, it follows a group of children who confront a shape-shifting entity that emerges every twenty-seven years to feed on fear. The book blends small-town drama with cosmic horror, jumping between the characters' childhood and adulthood as they face the creature known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
The story has a long history on screen. In 1990, IT was adapted into a two-part television miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise, a performance that became a cult favourite. Decades later, Andy Muschietti brought the story back to life with the 2017 film IT and its 2019 sequel IT Chapter Two, both of which became global box-office hits and introduced Bill Skarsgård's chilling version of Pennywise to a new generation.
IT: Welcome to Derry acts as a prequel, exploring the town's dark history and the origins of the evil that lurks beneath its sewers. While plot details remain under wraps, the series promises to reveal more about the curse that has plagued Derry for decades.
The cast features Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso and Bill Skarsgård, who reprises his sinister presence from the films. Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, the series lists the Muschiettis, Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee and Dan Lin as executive producers. Fuchs, who wrote the teleplay for the first episode, serves as co-showrunner alongside Kane.
With its mix of small-town secrets, supernatural terror and a legacy of fear stretching back decades, IT: Welcome to Derry aims to carry Stephen King's most terrifying creation into a new chapter of horror.
