Channel 4 is set to revisit the troubled Welsh town of Llanemlyn this June as The Light in the Hall: Still Waters brings viewers back to a story shaped by old wounds, buried secrets and a community once again facing deep divisions.
The drama serves as the English-language adaptation of Y Golau: Dŵr, which previously aired in Welsh on S4C. The new series centres on a controversial proposal to expand the local reservoir, a plan that quickly stirs tensions many believed had been left in the past.
The story unfolds across two different periods. In 1995, activist Llyr Owen is killed in a bombing that shocks the town. His cousin, Rhys Owen, is convicted of the crime and sent to prison. Decades later, Rhys returns home after serving his sentence, only to find Llanemlyn facing another bitter dispute connected to the same landscape that once tore the community apart.
As fresh protests emerge, trainee journalist Caryl Huws begins looking into the events surrounding the original tragedy. What starts as an investigation soon becomes a journey into the town's hidden history, uncovering long-kept secrets and raising new questions about guilt, loyalty and the cost of silence.
Leading the cast is Siân Reese-Williams as Caryl Huws, alongside Mark Lewis Jones as Rhys Owen. Nia Roberts returns as Eve Davies, while Robert Glenister joins the ensemble as Robert Davies. Together, they anchor a drama that blends personal conflict with wider questions about community, justice and the lasting impact of the past.
With its dual timeline structure and focus on a town wrestling with unresolved history, The Light in the Hall: Still Waters promises a tense and emotionally charged return to Llanemlyn.
The Light in the Hall: Still Waters begins airing on Channel 4 on 16 June at 21:00.
