A familiar face is heading back to Albert Square as Patrick Trueman’s son, Anthony, returns to EastEnders for the first time in over a decade. Actor Nicholas Bailey has stepped back into the role, with scenes due to air later this summer.

It’s been 11 years since Anthony last appeared in Walford, when he rushed back to be by Patrick’s side after he suffered a stroke. Since then, the character has kept his distance, living a life away from the Square. But with Patrick preparing to marry Yolande, Anthony’s invited back for what’s supposed to be a brief family reunion. That plan changes quickly when he arrives to find more going on than he bargained for.

EastEnders Executive Producer Ben Wadey confirmed that Anthony’s short visit takes a turn: “Anthony’s plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.”

Bailey spoke about the significance of returning to the long-running soap, calling it an unexpected but welcome opportunity. “It’s wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again. He’s such a big part of my journey as an actor and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long.” He added that revisiting the character of Anthony at this stage in his life opens up the chance to explore how time has shaped the relationship between father and son.

Filming is already underway, and Anthony Trueman’s return will unfold on screen later this summer during what promises to be an emotional and eventful chapter for the Trueman family.
