Nikki Bedi has hosted her final edition of Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4, marking the end of a five-year run with the programme. Her last show featured an eclectic mix of guests including writer and comedian Adam Kay, Dexy’s Midnight Runners frontman Kevin Rowland, and Anna Whitwam, who shared how boxing helped her process grief.
Adrian Chiles will take over presenting duties when Saturday Live returns on 6 September. He’ll host solo going forward and will continue his role on BBC Radio 5 Live. Reflecting on her departure, Nikki said it had been a joy and privilege to share the stories of so many remarkable guests. She also thanked the Cardiff-based production team and hinted at future projects on Radio 4.
While leaving Saturday Live, Nikki remains a prominent voice across the BBC. She’ll continue to present The Arts Hour and The Arts Hour On Tour on the BBC World Service. The latter brings cultural conversations to live audiences across the globe, with past editions taking place in cities like Bangkok, Bucharest and St Louis. She also regularly presents cultural programming on BBC News.
Adrian, who co-presented the show alongside Nikki earlier this year, said he hopes to bring the same warmth and sense of fun that listeners have come to expect from the Saturday morning slot. His appointment was welcomed by BBC Radio 4 Controller Mohit Bakaya, who praised Nikki’s time on the show and expressed confidence in Adrian’s ability to continue its legacy.
Saturday Live has been produced from Cardiff since its move to Wales two years ago, part of the BBC’s broader effort to increase regional broadcasting. Adrian will continue to present the show from the Welsh capital when the new series begins in the autumn.
